I am very concerned about the health ref...Cynthia,
I am very concerned about the health reforms as well, yet I see alot of backpedaling there too....single payer is dangerously close to being taken off the table and why? b/c the health insurance companies want to have a monopoly and not want the govt to compete.....their only outcry is socialism.....which is absurd, for we have the mail and publc schools as socialized systems which we have come to expect as our basic American right....

about Gates, I am in the belief that descent is the highest form of patritism..I voted for him hands down, but the very fact that he's there does not make the battle a win win situation. I would have loved for him to be tougher , for I feel his need to make everyone happy, makes him look weak to the Reps.....and they still get everything they want because of this...as if the dems were not the majority...you know if the reps were the majority they would not be that "considerate"

Back on backpedaling....same thing with Israel and Palestine.... just recently I've begun to hear a bit of push about not allowing Israel to create more settlements in areas considered Palestinian territory.........but before that it was no different than Bush.....same of talk of "Israel has the right to defend itself"

and with Iran.....We've taken the whole sections of ideas from Republican and have reacted to them...that is our foreign policy with Iran. Iran, I do not believe they are a threat to us.......I am not worried about Iran at all....I am more afraid of hot-headed Israel using chemical weapons on innocent people and getting people in the M.East region more and more discontent with our governments deep "friendship" with Israel. Very scary.

you're right we should not focus on small things when we've got bigger fish to fry....yet.....from the smallest to the big things....Dems always backpedal....

Reps set up the paradigms and Democrats simply react to them.....I do not see democrats questioning concepts like "terrorism" or the idea that Iran is a threat...or the fact that Israel has a right to defend itself and totally ignoring the fact that Palestinians have a right to have an existence free of hunger, poverty, death and military rule. Setting up new ways of looking at our problems is not even on the agenda unfortunately. They have no ideas of their own and at a time like this when we are the majority in all 3 fronts it's such a missed opportunity. incredibly sad. Republicans and corporations still get everything they need and want and more....right now, I have very little hope....but want to be surprisingly wrong.....

sorry to ramble....hope it makes sense...

MirMiriam Cutelishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02039522226269542039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340686832795120033.post-32857029993250204072009-07-25T11:28:06.431-04:002009-07-25T11:28:06.431-04:00Warning: Honest reaction below-
Hi Miriam,
I&#...Warning: Honest reaction below-

Hi Miriam,

I've just heard the "non-apology" as I'm somewhat disconnected out here in PR. From my distance, it seems that his decision to backpedal was a necessary political move. I agree with Obama's sentiment in the outburst but it was too personal...remember how the public got so upset when the first lady, Michelle, said it was the first time she was proud to be an American after her husband was elected?

Some people appreciate honesty but many use that as an opportunity to tear down the President. He has to express his personal feelings carefully so he can lead the country. People usually don't let Presidents freely express themselves.

I agree with Prof. Gates, the country needs to confront its continued prejudice, and I hope he continues to explore this problem. I was shocked to see him in handcuffs. I've read much of his research and respect his accessible style and agree with his philosophy.(What I have read.)

I just don't want anything to interfere with the passage of the Health Care Reform...and really, we need to change our foreign policy-the President has a lot of responsibility. It's amazing how many use opportunities such as this one to tear him down.

I also think a man with 2 IDs who is explaining, not running (how could he with a cane?) was the victim of over-policing. I can speculate as to the causes. I'm not down on police at all but I have many concerns. In my own private life one example comes right to the forefront of my mind.

Where were the police when my mother and her partner were murdered? The police station was called and complaints were filed about Brooks' threats. What was different? Why didn't they act? I believe because he was an old man with a cane. How could he be a threat? ...oh...and I forgot to say he was white. He wasn't a scholar-he scored mildly retarded on his intelligence test. He wasn't articulate-his statements were filled with prejudice. But he was given the benefit of the doubt. I wonder if it had anything to do with the color of his skin? And to what loss? "Two lesbians were shot"- I guess they just weren't sympathetic victims.

What I mean to say, Miriam, is that I agree with your comments but Obama has to be politically strategic. Am I a "Demo-coward"?Cynthia Pittmannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12656761837022197235noreply@blogger.com
