Just wanted to tell you, my son-...Congratulations.

Just wanted to tell you, my son-in-law was on Biggest Loser (his season aired a year ago) and he is doing great now. He, with the help of a wonderful trainer, had to realize that the BL method gets weight off fast but not for the long haul. He now builds strength and muscle and eats sensibly, without the extreme cardio workouts of BL. I'd go into more detail but it would make this comment too long. My point is, BL was a wonderful kick-start, but it is a REALITY TV SHOW and not a life style you can live with for the long haul.Phylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00482775924810462890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340686832795120033.post-81074601097213972562012-07-25T01:03:48.793-04:002012-07-25T01:03:48.793-04:00Any mom who does paper mache with her kids is a sp...Any mom who does paper mache with her kids is a special person. I feel that many teachers have become imprisoned in the testing-craze and have had their talents robbed from them by the corporatists, they have become fearful, numb, they second-guess and doubt themselves when they veer away from what we are being forced to do, even though instinctually they know teaching the whole child is the most beneficial. I have felt that myself, but have been able to pull myself out of it and balance the "real teaching" with what I am being blackmailed into doing. Unfortunately, I feel this dehumanization of education is no accident. Deformers do not want inspired, creative thinking adults to come out of the lower and middle classes. Innovation and independent thought is only reserved for the very wealthy.Chalk Dusterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08983784261421373401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340686832795120033.post-20701398395853812102011-08-01T19:36:32.478-04:002011-08-01T19:36:32.478-04:00I thought you'd like to link to Guy Brandenbur...I thought you'd like to link to Guy Brandenburg's excellent blog post on research on the issue of how kids in our affluent wards do in DCPS vs. private schools.

http://gfbrandenburg.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/a-way-for-the-most-affluent-folks-to-really-help-improve-public-education/

The basic point is that kids who come from affluent families in the wealthies parts of DC do as well in private or DCPS schools.Mary Melchiornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340686832795120033.post-39422755531877409332011-08-01T10:38:42.073-04:002011-08-01T10:38:42.073-04:00Aaaagh! I absolutely cannot BELIEVE that Gates is using his millions to conduct research on how class size doesn't matter. If THIS is his way of "giving back", he's going to have lots of explaining to do when he reaches the Pearly Gates ('scuse the pun) but I doubt he will even get there. I truly believe with every inch of my soul the Ed Deform is a calculated profiteering move masked as "helping our children". Their goal is to keep the poor anf middle class serving their corporate interests for the rest of time. Test-driven "education" will produce a tranquilized work force that does not question, but serves, the wealthy 2% that is running this country. Sounds like Aristocracy and dictatorship to me. It is SCARY. This is why I am so glad there are thousands finally fighting back. I see a revolution on the horizon and I'm afraid it's going to be a bloodbath, because this elimination of basic rights goes even deeper than education. Schools are the primary target now, so the deformers can "shape" our kids to their liking. I read what Matt said at the SOS March: "Millions are behind you". Keep writing and fighting and I will do the same! Blessings :)
www.americasfutureinsidestory.blogspot.comChalk Dusterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08983784261421373401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340686832795120033.post-16222606638403429042011-08-01T10:13:46.849-04:002011-08-01T10:13:46.849-04:00You make so many outstanding points. The same sickness fills NYC...there are areas of elitist wealthy who are so willing to critisize teachers who are given the bare minimum with which to do their jobs. I CANNOT believe that Gates is trying to find research that proves class size doesn't matter. WHat an IDIOT! They blame everyone except the parents and the kids. It's always the teacher's fault, the unions, the adminstrators, the curriculum. I too, have never seen a rubber room, teacher's that don't care about kids, or any of those nay sayers coming in to check it out for themselves. I think our politicians and leaders would be better prepared to make decisions about education funding if they spent a good amount of time in our toughest and most needy schools!Jennifer Matott (Sigmagirl)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03432187935920496514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340686832795120033.post-24804647882299278682011-04-18T20:06:48.295-04:002011-04-18T20:06:48.295-04:00This was my 20th high school reunion.....it was Ma...This was my 20th high school reunion.....it was Marymount school on 84th street and 5th avenue, across from the Met.
